Beautiful Georgian Bay, Ontario truly has so much to offer - endless beaches, mountain bike and cross-country trails, even diving for sunken treasure.  Located just northeast of Lake Huron, Georgian Bay is a jewel, with its tens of thousands of islands and its windswept shores.  The natural beauty of its landscapes has inspired artists, including the Group of Seven.

At the south end of the bay are the towns of Midland and Penetanguishene, which are popular sites for summer cottages.  The Georgian Bay shores have some of the finest freshwater beaches in Canada.

Activities

The southern shore of Georgian Bay has a network of trails which interconnect many of the area’s exceptional beach areas.  Cyclists, bikers and hikers have their choice of routes – some more challenging than others. 

In the summer, kayaking, boating, swimming and scuba diving are popular pastimes.  In the winter, snowboarders, cross-country skiers and even hardy winter campers abound.  Nature lovers have their choice of a number of parks and wildlife areas, many of which also have campgrounds nestled amidst stunning surroundings.

Many ships have been lost in the Georgian Bay, due to her tempestuous waters when a storm hits; however, this has created a treasure-hunting playground in the Bay.  There are several wrecks in the Fathom Five National Marine Park area and the area's cold, clear water makes this one of the best dive spots in the world.
